Kathleen Clem, MD

Kathleen Clem, MD, is an Associate Professor and has served as the Chief, Division of Emergency Medicine, Duke University Medical Center since 1999.

During her career, Dr. Clem established an International Emergency Medicine Fellowship and served as an International Emergency Medicine Fellowship Director. She has organized medical teams and taken Emergency Medicine Residents to established clinics and provided medical support in Tanzania, Kenya, Papua New Guinea, Honduras, Nepal, and the Solomon Islands. She spent seven months in the People's Republic of China, helping to organize the Emergency Department where she also developed an Emergency Medicine Residency program.  Dr. Clem also spent a month in Vietnam as medical director for an academic expedition to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. 

Her professional passions include emergency medicine practice both in the US and internationally. Under her leadership a residency in Emergency Medicine has been established at Duke. The Duke Emergency Medicine Research Center was opened in August 2004.  Duke is currently renovating and expanding the Emergency Department which is scheduled to be completed in 2007.

Dr. Clem received her medical degree and completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at Loma Linda University, California.
