Charles J. Gerardo, MD

Dr. Gerardo is the Director of Clinical Affairs for the Division of Emergency Medicine and Associate Professor of Surgery at Duke University. He graduated with honors in the biological sciences from Stanford University and completed his medical degree from University of California at Davis. He completed his specialty training in Emergency Medicine at Loma Linda University. During this time he provided clinical care and medical education in Nepal, Nicaragua and Panama.

Dr. Gerardo came to Duke in 2000 and has served leadership roles in medical education and operational administration within Emergency Medicine. He currently serves as the Director of International Emergency Medicine (IEM) at Duke and mentor for the fellowship in IEM/GHRP. He has visited Eldoret, Kenya in an effort to promote the improved delivery of emergency care through education, clinical care and research. His clinical research and publications include snakebite, trauma systems development, renal stone therapy and emergency department/HIV testing.
